Maribeth Swift has been immersed in the design industry for more than 40 years. After leaving art school, she began her career working in her mother’s paint and wallpaper store, which also offered interior design services specializing in custom window treatments.
It was there that Maribeth developed the foundation of her design career and learned an invaluable lesson: measure twice, cut once. Early in her career, she gained experience working on large-scale commercial projects, including the main lobby of Nashua Corporation, the seventh-floor C-suite offices at Sanders Associates, Digital’s main lobby, the Keene State Lab, and UNH’s New Residence Hall, to name a few. Alongside these commercial projects, she also worked closely with residential homeowners and local contractors, building a well-rounded understanding of both the creative and practical sides of design.
At just 24 years old, with her mother’s encouragement and financial support, Maribeth opened her own retail store in New Hampshire’s Lakes Region. The experience provided valuable lessons in business ownership and helped her recognize that running a retail store in a small town, was not quite the path she had envisioned for herself.
Within two years, Maribeth closed the store and returned to Nashua, where she felt most at home. She was drawn to the faster pace, the variety of projects, and the greater creative challenges that allowed her to put her talents to work. This decision marked an important step in shaping the career she would continue to build over the next four decades.
During this time, Maribeth expanded her expertise into kitchen design, working with various lumberyards, design-build firms, and as an independent contractor. These experiences broadened her knowledge of cabinetry, space planning, and the many elements that bring a design together.
Maribeth later transitioned into sales representation, working with respected industry names including Valspar Paint, American Woodmark, and, most recently, Wellborn Cabinet. Throughout these roles, she continued to nurture her drapery and interior design business, maintaining a connection to the work she has always loved most. No matter where her career has taken her, her heart has always remained in design.
Now back in New Hampshire’s beautiful Lakes Region, Maribeth has launched her design business full-time, bringing more than 40 years of experience and a lifelong passion for design to her clients. She welcomes thoughtful conversations with prospective clients and invites anyone in need of design guidance to reach out. Whether the project is large or small, Maribeth looks forward to collaborating, sharing ideas, and helping bring each client’s vision to life.
